Are We Living in the End Times? What the Bible Really Says
INTRODUCTION
The topic of the “end times” has captured people’s attention for generations. Every crisis, war, or global change causes many to ask:
“Is this it? Are we close to the Lord’s return?”
The Bible tells us not to live in fear — but it also tells us to watch, be sober, and understand the times (1 Thessalonians 5:6).
In this study, we’ll look at what Scripture says about the last days, what signs to watch for, and how to avoid the many false teachings surrounding prophecy today.
1️⃣ What Jesus Said to Watch For
Jesus gave His disciples a clear list of signs in Matthew 24. These are not meant to frighten us — they are meant to prepare us.
✔ 1. Spiritual Deception Increases
“Take heed that no man deceive you.” — Matthew 24:4 (KJV)
Today we see:
False preachers
False gospels
Movements claiming new revelation
Churches drifting from truth
Social media “prophets” with no biblical foundation
The Bible says deception is the first sign.
✔ 2. Wars and Rumors of Wars
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars…” — Matthew 24:6 (KJV)
Jesus didn’t say war was new — He said it would increase and become global in scale.
Today, the world is more connected, unstable, and unpredictable than ever.
✔ 3. Earthquakes, Famines, and Pestilences
“…earthquakes in divers places.” — Matthew 24:7 (KJV)
We are witnessing:
Unusual natural disasters
Global food instability
Worldwide disease outbreaks
Weather extremes
These are called “the beginning of sorrows.”
2️⃣ Israel: God’s Time Clock
The modern return of Israel to its land (1948) is one of the most significant prophetic fulfillments in history.
“And they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob my servant…”
— Ezekiel 37:25 (KJV)
The re-gathering of Israel and increased conflict in the Middle East line up precisely with Scripture.
Many prophecies revolve around Israel — not America, Europe, or political parties.
If you want to understand prophecy, watch Israel.
3️⃣ Moral Decline & Culture Shift
Paul warned that the last days would be marked by extreme moral collapse:
“In the last days perilous times shall come.” — 2 Timothy 3:1 (KJV)
He describes:
Pride
Disobedience
Violence
Sexual immorality
Rejection of truth
Lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God
Our generation matches this description more than any other in history.
4️⃣ The Rise of Globalism
Revelation speaks of a future global government system (Revelation 13).
We are not in that moment yet — but the world is being shaped for it:
Digital currencies
Global communication
International agreements
Worldwide surveillance
One-world ideas
Pressure for “unity” at the cost of truth
These are not the tribulation — but they are shadows pointing toward it.
5️⃣ Common False Teachings to Avoid
End times topics attract confusion, false prophecy, and sensationalism.
Here are a few major errors to avoid:
❌ False Teaching #1 — Setting Dates for Christ’s Return
Jesus said clearly:
“But of that day and hour knoweth no man…” — Matthew 24:36 (KJV)
Anyone who claims to know a date is ignoring Scripture.
❌ False Teaching #2 — “We Are Already in the Tribulation”
According to the Bible, the tribulation includes:
Global judgments
Antichrist ruling
Mark of the Beast
Massive destruction
We are seeing precursors — but not the tribulation.
❌ False Teaching #3 — New Revelation Outside Scripture
God has already given us everything we need.
“…the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”
— Jude 1:3 (KJV)
Any teaching that adds extra-biblical visions, dreams, or prophecy should be rejected.
6️⃣ So… Are We Getting Close?
According to Scripture: Yes.
We are watching the stage being set for the events described in the Bible.
We are closer now than any generation before us.
But the question Scripture emphasizes is not “When?”
It is “Are you ready?”
7️⃣ How Should We Live in These Last Days?
Here is the biblical response:
✔ Be Watchful
“Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour…” (Matthew 25:13)
✔ Be Sober & Steadfast
Don’t be shaken by the news cycle.
✔ Be Faithful
Serve the Lord with urgency and purpose.
✔ Be a Light
The darker the world becomes, the brighter the Gospel shines.
✔ Be Hopeful
We are not called to fear — we are called to look up.
“Look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”
— Luke 21:28 (KJV)
FINAL WORD
Bible prophecy is not meant to create anxiety — it is meant to strengthen our faith.
The signs tell us that God is in control, His Word is true, and Jesus is coming again.
Until that day, let’s live with conviction, courage, and compassion.
