Where to Begin When You Want to Grow in Faith Again

We all go through seasons where our faith feels dry or distant. Maybe life’s pressures pulled you away, or maybe a hard season left you questioning everything. You want to draw closer to God again, but you’re not sure where to begin.

The beautiful truth is this — God is never far away. He hasn’t moved; He’s been waiting with open arms. You don’t have to have everything figured out to come back. You just have to take one step toward Him.

1. Start by Talking to God Honestly

Psalm 62:8 (KJV)
Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.

Prayer doesn’t have to sound fancy or rehearsed. God already knows what’s in your heart — He just wants to hear it from you.
Tell Him you’ve been struggling. Tell Him you miss Him. Ask Him to help you want Him more.
Honest prayers open the door for deep healing.

2. Get Back Into God’s Word — Even If It Feels Hard

Romans 10:17 (KJV)
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

When your faith feels weak, go back to the source.
Start small — a Psalm a day, a verse in the morning, or a chapter from the Gospels at night.
God’s Word has a way of stirring your heart again, reminding you of His promises and His presence.

Even when you don’t feel it — read anyway. The Word of God works beneath the surface.

3. Surround Yourself With Other Believers

Proverbs 27:17 (KJV)
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

Faith grows stronger in community. When you worship, serve, and study with others, your heart begins to awaken again.
Find a local church (or come back to your home church) and let yourself be encouraged.
You don’t have to walk this path alone — that’s never how God designed it.

4. Let Go of Guilt and Start Fresh

Lamentations 3:22–23 (KJV)
It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Guilt can whisper that it’s too late or that you’ve failed too much — but grace speaks louder.
Every morning you wake up is another reminder that God isn’t finished with you.
Stop replaying what went wrong and start thanking Him for another chance to begin again.

5. Take One Step of Obedience at a Time

Growth doesn’t happen overnight. Don’t try to fix everything all at once.
Instead, take one faithful step — pray daily, open your Bible, forgive someone, show kindness, attend church.
Small steps taken consistently lead to lasting change.

God honors your desire to grow, even when it starts as a whisper in your heart.

Closing

If you’re ready to grow in faith again, start right where you are. God isn’t asking for perfection — He’s asking for pursuit.
Every time you reach for Him, He reaches back.
Let today be the day you turn toward Him again, and you’ll discover He was there all along.
